Views wanted on reactor designs
While no formal plans have yet been submitted for Sizewell, the
Environment Agency is assessing the designs of two new nuclear
reactors and are seeking comments on their views so far.
A process called ‘Generic Design Assessment’, or GDA, allows the
Environment Agency to assess new reactor designs at an early stage
and so identify any problems at a time when they can most influence
improvements. Two types of reactor are being reviewed - the
Westinghouse designed AP1000™ and the Areva/EDF designed UK EPR™,
which is proposed at Sizewell.
You can view the consultation document and give your views
online by visiting the
Environment Agency website (new window) or
call 08708 506 506 or email
gda@environment-agency.gov.uk
for a copy of the consultation document. The closing date for
comments is 18 October 2010.
