Suffolk County Council is responsible for maintaining and repairing
most street lights in the district. Street lights owned by Suffolk
County Council have a plastic plate showing the number of the
column and a freephone number to call to report the fault.
To report a faulty street light, lit sign, or lit
bollard use the online form (new window) on the
Suffolk County Council website or call freephone 0800
591055 with the following details:
- The number on the lamp post.
- The road name.
- The town or parish.
If you do not know the lamp post number, please give some other
means of locating the light, such as a nearby house number.
If you think the fault is an emergency or you want to report one
of the following faults, contact their Customer Services Centre on
0845 606 6171 instead of reporting the fault
online:
- electrical wires sticking out from the column/unit;
- 3 or more adjacent lights out, whole streets, adjacent
streets;
- damaged columns, bollards, signs or lights;
- flasher units outside schools;
- belisha beacons at zebra crossings.
Some faults are due to loss of power supply and have to be
referred to the electricity supplier. As their priority is to
restore supplies to households and businesses it may take longer to
restore power to streetlights.
Electrical equipment on trunk roads (the A14 in Suffolk Coastal)
should be reported using the Highways Agency Information Line,
telephone 0300 123 5000.
