Slimming on referral is a scheme
run by NHS Suffolk in partnership with Slimming World to help
people who have health issues and who would benefit from
losing weight. This scheme is not for those who normally
attend commercial slimming classes. You have to be referred by
your doctor or practice nurse so ask about the scheme next
time you go to your GP surgery.
What happens if I agree to attend the scheme?
Your practice nurse will discuss the scheme with you. They
will ask you to sign a consent form and will collect some general
health information, for example, your height, weight, blood
pressure. You will then be given a set of vouchers and you can
attend any meeting at a Slimming World group that best suits you.
The leader at your meeting will collect your voucher and you will
be treated as any other member at that meeting.
What will I have to do?
You will be asked to attend 12 sessions with Slimming World at a
local venue to suit you. You will also need to agree to visit your
practice nurse when asked to during the course and after it has
finished to see how you are getting on.
How much will it cost?
This is a free course with Slimming World paid for by NHS
Suffolk.
Can I go on the course more than once?
Only one course can be offered to you and this is why you will
be asked to consider whether you are able to make the commitment to
attending the 12 sessions.
What if I decide this is not the right time for me to
diet?
Do not worry if you are not ready to join this scheme, it is
better for you to join when you can give a commitment and attend
all the meetings.
When your course finishes
At the end of the course your practice nurse will measure your
weight, waist measurement and blood pressure. You will be aksed to
see your practice nurse 3 months and 12 months later to see how you
are getting on.
How do I find a Slimming World group near me?
You can find your nearest group on the
Slimming World website (new window).
