Disabled Persons Railcard

Train cartoonA Disabled Persons Railcard allows you to buy discounted rail tickets. If another adult is travelling with you, they can also travel at the same discounted fare. The cost of a Disabled Persons Railcard from Suffolk Coastal under its concessionary travel scheme is £13.50.

Am I eligible for a Disabled Persons Railcard?

You are eligible for a Disabled Persons Railcard if you meet one or more of the criteria listed below:

  • Are registered as having a visual impairment.

  • Are registered deaf or use a hearing aid.

  • Have epilepsy and either: have repeated attacks even though you receive drug treatment or are currently prohibited from driving because of your epilepsy.

  • Receive Attendance Allowance.

  • Receive Disability Living Allowance at either: the higher rate or lower rate for getting around (mobility) for one year or longer or the higher or middle rate for help with personal care.

  • Receive Severe Disablement Allowance.

  • Receive War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement.

  • Receive War or Service Disablement Pension for 80% or more disability.

  • Receive Long Term Incapacity Benefit.

  • Are buying or leasing a vehicle through the mobility scheme.

Please note that if you apply for a Disabled Persons Railcard you will not be eligible for a national bus pass as well because the Council's scheme only allows eligible people to have one concession at a time.

How do I apply?

In order to apply you will have to complete two application forms - the Council's form and a second one required by National Rail.

You will also have to provide details of your disability. Please contact us on 01394 444647 or email customerservices@suffolkcoastal.gov.uk for advice on what details are required.

You must complete and sign both forms and send them with a cheque or postal order for £13.50 made payable to Suffolk Coastal District Council and details of your disability to the address below. Please do not send cash.
