Launched as part of Recycle Week, seven special pink banks are
now open at venues across Suffolk Coastal giving a month-long
opportunity for local women to recycle their bras.
This special initiative will not only help the environment by
cutting down the number of bras that end up in landfill sites, but
will see them collected and sent to West Africa and help raise
funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity, with £1 being
donated for every kilogram of bras.
“This is an excellent opportunity for women to turn all their
unwanted bras green by just leaving them in one of the special pink
recycling banks. The bras will be sent to West Africa where they
are reused and recycled,” said Cllr Andrew Nunn, Cabinet Member for
the Green Environment.
“This scheme, which has been set up by the Suffolk Waste
Partnership, will run for the whole of June, giving everyone plenty
of time to sort out their unwanted bras and get along to one of our
seven venues,” added Cllr Nunn.
The pink recycling banks can be found inside the Felixstowe
Leisure Centre, Leiston Leisure Centre, the libraries at Aldeburgh,
Framlingham, Kesgrave and Saxmundham, plus the Council’s Melton
Hill offices at Woodbridge. Bras can only be donated during normal
opening
hours.
