Owners of listed buildings and period properties are being
invited to a special free information event which will advise them
on how they can care and repair for them.
The event is being held by Suffolk Coastal’s design and
conservation team at Woodbridge Community Hall, Station Road,
Woodbridge on Thursday, May 29 at 7.30pm.
“Listed buildings and Conservation Areas, individually and
collectively, form the heritage which is the very essence of our
part of England, and we all owe it to future generations to ensure
they will be able to enjoy them as we do”, said Cllr Andy Smith,
Cabinet Member for Planning.
“This is an excellent opportunity for people to get free expert
advice on what they may or may not do to their listed building or
period property.
“It is essential that people seek official advice before
carrying out any improvements to their property and I cannot stress
how important this is, if you own a listed building or live in a
conservation area and are intending to carry out any works that
could affect its historic character.
“Our design and conservation team can offer information that
could help you ensure that any work done does not adversely affect
its unique, possibly historic, character,” added Cllr Smith.
With over 3,000 listed buildings in the district, Suffolk
Coastal takes the protection and preservation of the architectural
heritage very seriously.
There are understandably very strict rules when it comes to making
any changes to a listed building. To have gained that status, a
building has been recognised as being historically important, and
it is the current owner’s responsibility to protect those qualities
for future generations to enjoy.
“Our conservation team can help people understand exactly what
they should or should not do, and our advice is free,” added Cllr
Smith.
