Not in My Neighbourhood week returns next month to the district to promote community safety and crime reduction and to help make Suffolk Coastal an even safer place to live.

During the week there will be several events taking place across the district designed to offer advice and raise awareness about reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in the local community.

“Not in My Neighbourhood week is a really important event that not only shows local residents the safety presence in their community but also encourages them to help do their bit to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime in their community,” said Cllr Sherrie Green, Cabinet Member for Community Safety.

Representatives will be out and about in the community throughout the week, and there will be a series of specialised community safety events on Wednesday, November 4 at Saxmundham Market Hall from 10am till 11am and Aldeburgh Community Centre from 10am till 4pm and on Thursday, November 5 at Budgens in Woodbridge from10am till 4pm.

The events will see Suffolk Coastal’s Community Safety team working alongside members from the Safer Neighbourhood Teams, Neighbourhood Watch, Police Direct, Suffolk Primary Care Trust, Drugs Awareness and Suffolk Coastal Anti-social behaviour.

“One issue residents sometimes raise is what is being done to keep them safe. The Not in My Neighbourhood week aims to inform them what we are doing to tackle crime in local communities and also what they can do to help.

“When local people see a community safety presence and other people taking action to ensure their neighbourhood is safe this reassures them, making the community an even safer and enjoyable place to live. I would encourage all members of the community to come along to one of the events to see what is being done in their area,” added Cllr Green.

Not in My Neighbourhood week is part of a national event taking place in the district in collaboration with Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Coastal District Council Community Safety Teams and Suffolk Safer Neighbourhood Teams.
