Archived press release.

Local employers have the chance to get their employees up to date with the important basics of health and safety thanks to a special one-day course run by Suffolk Coastal.

The Foundation Course in Health and Safety in the Workplace, run by staff from Suffolk Coastal’s food and safety team, offers candidates the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised Chartered Institute of Environmental Health certificate.

“Most accidents at work can be prevented as the evidence reveals that they are commonly caused by lack of knowledge or negligence. This course shows the vital role that employees and employers can play in minimising the risk of accident and creating a safer working environment,” said Councillor Sherrie Green, Cabinet Member with responsibility for food and safety.

“We hope that local employers recognise the importance of health and safety, as well as the human cost of any incidents that could have been avoided.

“We run this course three times a year, and it has helped to maintain and improve health and safety across the district. At a cost of £50 per person, most employers recognise that it is a sound investment,” added Councillor Green.

The course covers a range of topics including risk assessment, accident prevention, manual handling, first aid, protective equipment, and health and safety laws, and the next one is being held at the Melton Hill offices on Wednesday, October 18.

For more information about the course or to book a place call the health and safety team at Suffolk Coastal on 01394 444357, or visit the Council’s website and book a place on line. Just tap in www.suffolkcoastal.gov.uk/yourbusiness/foodsafety/training/courses
