The sun is currently shining down on the play and open space
facilities on offer to residents of Purdis Farm but which now needs
a name as its final finishing touch.
The area, off Murrills Road, Meadow Crescent and Pine Drive,
offers diverting fun with play equipment, aerial runway, a
basketball goal, a kickabout area, along with the best of natural
surroundings with a flower meadow, and a peaceful informal
area.
“These new facilities have come about thanks to a partnership
between housing developer Persimmon Homes and this Council, with
the designs being done by James Blake Associates and our landscape
officer Anne Westover,” said Cllr Mary Neale, Cabinet Member for
leisure and countryside.
“This site now offers a lovely mixture of modern play facilities
for children of all ages to burn off their energy, in a setting
that manages to preserve the best of the traditional natural
world.
“I am sure this will be an excellent local facility for local
people and now all we need is a name. We are asking for
suggestions, with a small prize on offer for the best one that best
sums up this new restful oasis,” added Cllr Neale.
The site was developed as part of the planning agreement with
Persimmon Homes for their Purdis Farm development, and lies over an
Anglo-Saxon burial ground.
A pocket of the former heathland has been preserved, as well as
an elm hedge and old oak trees, which have the protection of tree
preservation orders. The site will be managed by Suffolk Coastal’s
countryside team and Suffolk Coastal Services
Ltd.
