Dog-friendly beaches in Suffolk Coastal

Sign on Aldeburgh beach From October through to April, there are no dog restrictions in force on beaches in Suffolk Coastal.

There are restrictions during the summer on some beaches from 1 May through to 30 September each year. These are clearly signposted and more details and maps of the restricted areas are given below.

Dog waste bins are provided in many convenient locations to help you clear up after your pet.

Some areas of the Suffolk coast are designated as nature reserves and are home to nesting birds and rare plants. These may restrict dogs or require that they are kept on leads. Please comply with any notices displayed to this effect.

Aldeburgh

Though the main beach is restricted from May through September, there is a mile of dog-friendly beach just to the North of Aldeburgh which stretches from the Wentworth Hotel to Thorpeness.

Dunwich Heath and beach

Dogs are allowed on the National Trust site although restrictions apply. Call 01728 648501 or email dunwichheath@nationaltrust.org.uk for more information.

Felixstowe

While the main beach of Felixstowe has dog restrictions in place from May through September, there are dog-friendly beaches on either side of the restricted area, which runs from Spa Pavilion to Arwela Road.

Thorpeness

Dog restrictions are in place from May through September on a small area of beach adjacent to Remembrance Road.

Sizewell

Tucked between Dunwich and Thorpeness, Sizewell beach has no restrictions on dogs year-round although occasional restrictions are imposed for the safe-keeping of nesting birds.

Walberswick

No dog restrictions in place.
