Making sand castles

Felixstowe is an attractive seaside resort that has retained much of its charm and elegance over the years. Beautiful gardens line its long, level promenade and Felixstowe boasts over 4 miles of sand and shingle beaches still dotted with colourful beach huts.

Felixstowe Pier arcadeThere is a good selection of amusements and children’s activities along the seafront, including indoor and outdoor adventure golf, miniature train rides and a boating lake, and the traditional seaside assortment of slot machines and indoor amusements.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes along the seafront, town centre and the beach areas, which range from upmarket bistros to kiosks on the pier selling ice cream and fish and chips. If you would like to sample fresh, locally caught fish, there are several kiosks and restaurants on the seafront and at Felixstowe Ferry who Felixstowe beach hutsoffer seasonal specialities.

The resort is home to the Spa Pavilion Theatre, which has a variety of shows ranging from ballet, musicals, an annual drama festival, and pantomimes. There is an independent cinema that shows the latest films, as well as housing the bingo hall.

Martello Tower, Felixstowe FerryFelixstowe Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, bowling rink, a soft play area for children and a gym. A fine links golf course can be found at Felixstowe Ferry which is also home to sailing and waterski clubs.

From Felixstowe Ferry you can take a foot ferry across the Deben estuary to Bawdsey, the birthplace of Radar. The Ferry lies at the southern end of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Landguard FortThere are many interesting walks along this stretch of coast and the area is ideal for bird watching.

At the other end of Felixstowe there is the Landguard Peninsular, with its nature reserve, historic 16th Century fort, and Felixstowe Museum as well as a foot ferry that links Felixstowe to Shotley and Harwich.

The viewpoint area on the Landguard Peninsular, where you Port of Felixstowecan watch the biggest container ships in the world and cruise liners going in and out of the ports of Felixstowe and Harwich, is very popular with residents and visitors alike.

Felixstowe is a truly traditional seaside resort with an interesting mix of the old and new that is perfect for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
