121 energy audits and 81 waste analysis audits have
now been carried out by the Suffolk Coastal Business Energy
Advisory Service.
The results so far ...
Our Business Energy Advisor has calculated a cumulative total
annual carbon footprint of 7,382 tonnes and a cumulative total
energy spend of £2,284,041 a year from 121 audits within Suffolk
Coastal. This equates to an average annual energy spend of £18,876
per business and an average annual carbon footprint of 61
tonnes of CO2(e) per business.
If these businesses were to implement simple good housekeeping
measures, as detailed in each tailored energy report and action
plan, savings of over £243,728 could be seen.
Examples of cost savings include £49,470 that could be seen
from lighting upgrades, £167,372 from upgrades to heating systems
and £72,399 from improvements to building fabric insulation and
£19,642 from refrigeration improvements. Overall our Advisor has
identified cumulative potential annual cost savings of £615,000 and
cumulative potential annual carbon savings of 3,211 tonnes of
CO2(e). This equates to an average saving of £5,083 per SME and
26.54 tonnes of CO2(e) per SME.
In addition to this, if the 81 businesses that
participated in the waste analysis service were to recycle the
waste that they are currently sending to landfill, this would
save a minimum of 971 tonnes of carbon each
year. If these businesses were increase recycling levels by 25%
this could save and divert 176 tonnes of waste from landfill.
