Suffolk Coastal’s Licensing Team deals with a range of licences,
permits, consents, and registrations that are intended to safeguard
the welfare and safety of the general public and the
environment.
These various licenses and permissions cover activities such as
the supply of alcohol, ‘regulated entertainment’ (which includes
live and recorded music, dancing, plays, films and indoor sporting
events), late night refreshment, pleasure boats, gambling, charity
collections (from house to house or in the street) and taxi and
private hire work.
There are penalties for not obtaining a licence where one is
needed. Some penalties are severe, in the form of high fines. The
Council carries out enforcement against those who do not obtain an
appropriate licence, and to protect the interests of persons who
may be adversely affected by licensable activities.

of licence, registration or permit and how to complain about a

We would also welcome your comments about the advice we give you
on our web pages. For example, have we made it easy to understand
whether a licence is needed? Have we explained how to apply for a
licence? Were you able to find the information you were looking
for?
