Suffolk Coastal's Cabinet

SpeakerListen to the text on this page

The Cabinet (or 'executive') is made up of the Leader of the Council and nine councillors from the majority party whom he or she appoints. Most day-to-day decisions are made by the Cabinet or by individual Cabinet members. Each Cabinet member has their own 'portfolio' or area of responsibility.

Cabinet members must also undertake their role and responsibilities of being a ward councillor.

Details of major decisions to be made by the Cabinet are published in a forward plan. If these decisions are to be discussed at a meeting of the Cabinet, this will generally be open to the public, unless personal or confidential matters are being discussed.

The Cabinet has to make decisions which are in line with the Council’s overall policies and budget. Decisions which are outside the budget or policy framework must be referred to Full Council to decide.

Full details about the role and responsibilities of the Cabinet can be found in the Council's Constitution.
