At Suffolk Coastal, we provide a wide range of benefits to
our staff:
Annual leave
Suffolk Coastal offers very generous annual leave entitlements
to staff. Annual leave is dependent upon grade and length of
service. Full time employees receive a minimum of 22 and up to 28
days leave per year. Employees with more than five years’
continuous service in local government receive an additional 5 days
leave, a minimum of 27 and up to 31 days leave per year.
Annual leave and public holidays are calculated for part time
employees, job sharers and temporary employees on a pro-rata basis,
according to the number of hours worked per week.
Final salary pension scheme
We offer a final salary pension scheme. On joining the Council,
you will be entitled to become a member of the Local Government
Pension Scheme. Your contribution to the pension scheme equates to
6% of your pay, though tax relief is applicable.
Flexi-time
The Council operates a flexible working hours scheme, that
enables employees to vary their hours outside of the core hours of
10am to 12 noon and 2pm to 4pm (for example, 8am to 4pm) over a
four week period, subject to the needs of the service.
Learning & development
Suffolk Coastal provides learning and development opportunities
for all levels of staff, covering training for work specific
topics, general management courses, an online e-learning facility
plus we offer a resource centre called the Learning Zone. We also
support training to achieve professional qualifications.
Our aim is to develop staff in order to achieve the Council’s
aims and objectives.
Free car park
There is a large car park located at the rear of the Council
building where staff can park free of charge.
Relocation scheme
A scheme for staff in Band D and above is available to assist
with relocating to the Suffolk Coastal area upon appointment to the
Council. The scheme provides assistance with removal expenses, a
settling-in allowance and moving fees.
Car allowance scheme
There is a car user allowance scheme in place at Suffolk Coastal
for those (e.g. Environmental Health Officers, Planning Officers)
who have to travel around the district as part of their job. High
and low essential users receive a lump sum each month in addition
to a generous mileage rate. Casual users, those who occasionally
use their car to attend meetings, conferences, training etc receive
a generous mileage rate.
On-site facilities
At the Melton Hill site, there is a staff self-service café with
a variety of vending machines, a pool table, dartboard, TV and a
‘quiet room’ with daily papers.
Staff counselling
Suffolk Coastal offers a confidential counselling scheme for all
staff with independent and impartial counsellors. The Council funds
short term support (usually up to 6 sessions) to help staff manage
work based or personal problems.
Maternity, paternity & parental leave
Suffolk Coastal offers generous maternity, paternity and
parental leave allowances to staff, which exceeds the statutory
minimum.
