Town and parish liasion meetings

SpeakerListen to the text on this page

The purpose of liaison meetings is to encourage communication between Suffolk Coastal and the district's towns and parishes on issues that effect us all. Area meetings in the north, central and south west areas of the district are held two or three times a year, although individual towns or parishes can request a liaison meeting, at any time, if they wish to discuss specific issues.

Forthcoming meetings

The next town and parish liaison meetings are scheduled to take place in January 2009. It was intended this round of meetings would provide an opportunity to discuss the Boundary Committee for England's recommendation for the future structure of local government in Suffolk which was due to be made by 31 December 2008.

However, the recent judicial review initiated by a number of Norfolk authorities has resulted in the Boundary Committee extending the consultation period. The Boundary Committee will now make its final proposal on 13 February 2009.

Therefore, whilst local government review will still remain as an item on the January 2009 agenda, the main item for discussion will be the Suffolk Coastal budget 2009/10.

A further round of parish liaison meetings will be held in mid February/early March 2009 to discuss the proposals announced by the Boundary Committee on 13 February 2009.

The January meetings will be held between 7.00pm to 9.00pm and each town or parish is invited to send up to two representatives. Dates and venues for the meetings are listed below and the final agenda will be despatched nearer the date.

  • North area - Wednesday, 7 January 2009 - Riverside Centre, Stratford St Andrew.

  • Ipswich fringe parishes - Wednesday, 14 January 2009 - Kesgrave Conference Centre.

  • South west and central - Thursday, 15 January 2009 - Council Chamber, Melton Hill.
