Place Surveys cancelled - Place Surveys were
cancelled by the Department for Communities and Local Government
(DCLG) following the change in Government in May
2010. |
The 2008 Place Survey was conducted by all local authorities in
England between September and December 2008 and provided
information on resident's perceptions of their local area and local
services.
It collected information on 18 national indicators (NIs) for
local government and additional non-national indicator
questions.
The DCLG published the results from Place Surveys across the
country in June 2009:
Survey results for Suffolk
Each individual council was responsible for running the survey
in their local area, using a core questionnaire supplied by the
DCLG. In Suffolk the survey was conducted by Opinion Research
Services on behalf of all of the local authorities through the
Suffolk Speaks contract.
Opinion Research Services analysed the survey responses to both
national indicator questions and non-national indicator questions
from across the county and published the results with rankings:
Key points from the results for Suffolk Coastal
4,000 questionnaires were distributed in the Suffolk Coastal
district, of which 1,736 were returned, a response rate of 44% -
the highest in Suffolk.
Suffolk Coastal ranked in the top three in Suffolk for all NIs
except one: NI 4 - the extent to which respondents feel they 'can
affect local decisions' for which we rank fifth in Suffolk (Suffolk
Coastal score: 28%, County average: 28%). This has declined since
the 2006 Best Value survey (Suffolk Coastal score in 2006: 34%,
County average in 2006: 29%).
Suffolk Coastal also achieved the highest score in Suffolk for
NI 140 'Fair treatment by local services' (Suffolk Coastal score:
82%, County average: 77%).
92% of respondents to the Place Survey did not believe
anti-social behaviour is a problem (NI17) - this was the second
best score in Suffolk (County average 86%).
Suffolk Coastal retained its rank as the highest in Suffolk for
the level of satisfaction 'with the way the Council runs things'
(Suffolk Coastal score: 52%, County average: 46%), although this
has dropped by 4% since the Best Value survey in 2006.
Satisfaction with the Council’s waste collection service scored
81%, up from the 2006 score (71%), and was the joint highest score
in Suffolk with Waveney and St Edmundsbury.
Suffolk Coastal also achieved the highest score in the County
for 'how well informed do you feel about local public services'
(Suffolk Coastal score 45%, County average 40%)
Our scores were in line with, or exceed the County average in
all areas except one - 'Please indicate how satisfied or
dissatisfied you are with each of the following public services in
your local area: Your local dentist' (Suffolk Coastal score: 62%,
County average: 71%). This was the lowest score in Suffolk.
