Background to the review
On 3 April 2008 the Council received a request from Melton
Parish Council for a boundary review to be undertaken. It was
agreed at the Full Council meeting held on 23 October 2008
that a boundary review should be carried out between Melton and
Ufford in the Melton Park area.
Full details of the background to the review can be found in the
report CL18/08 presented to Full Council and subsequent minutes of
the meeting:
Proposed options
The Melton/Ufford parish boundary in the Melton Park area
crossed through the Melton Park development and in some cases
crossed through the centre of some homes. It was not tied to any
firm ground features. 58 properties in Melton Park were in Ufford
and 159 properties were in Melton. The boundary line caused
confusion and inconvenience to some residents, which was
reported to us by Melton Parish Council and directly by some
residents. It is hoped that the outcome of the review will better
reflect the identity and interests of the Melton Park community,
and is also more effective and convenient.
The three proposed options for the area are shown on the map
below:
-
Proposals map showing options (new window PDF

- Option 1 - (land shown hatched blue) would
move the properties currently in Ufford into the parish of
Melton.
- Option 2 - (land shown hatched green) would
move the properties currently in Melton into the parish of
Ufford.
- Option 3 - would leave the boundary where it
currently is.
The first part of the review was a consultation
exercise with the local government electors, local businesses, and
local public and voluntary organisations for the area under review.
The closing date for comments was 25 September 2009.
Community governance review order approved
A report setting out the details of the process and the
findings of the review, was presented to Full Council on 17
December 2009, when Option 1 was approved and authorisation was
given to the making of a community governance review order to
implement it.
The community governance review order transfers the area of
land hatched blue and marked with the letter A the plan below from
the parish of Ufford to the parish of Melton.
The change to the boundary, which took effect on
1 April 2010, brings all properties in Melton Park
area within the same parish, removing an anomalous boundary and
putting in place a strong, clearly defined boundary tied to firm
ground features. Therefore, ensuring that community governance in
the area reflects the identities of the community and is effective
and convenient.

of Community Governance) (Melton and Ufford) Order 2010 can be seen
