What is the balanced scorecard?
The balanced scorecard comprises of a set of key objectives that
define success for Suffolk Coastal. These objectives have been set
under six priority themes which each make an important contribution
to quality of life within the district. The six themes
are:
- Community well-being
Protect and promote the well-being of the community in terms of
it's health, safety, leisure and cultural
opportunities.
- Economy
Stimulate a prosperous and sustainable economy in order to
improve the quality of life of the community.
- Rural issues
Improve the quality of life for rural communities by focussing
on access to services.
- Housing
Encourage the improved provision of, and access to, appropriate
housing to meet existing and future needs.
- Environment
Protect, improve and make sustainable use of our environment
for the people who live, work and visit the area, leaving a rich
and diverse legacy for future generations.
- Fiscal & democratic services
Respond to our customer and community needs with integrity and
openess, using resources wisely and encouraging public
participation wherever possible.

Why do we need it?
The balanced scorecard gives us:
- Focus.
- Clarity.
- A clear sense of priorities.
- Simple and consistent presentation of key information on how we
are performing.
- A clear sense of direction that our staff and partners can
understand.
What do we use it for?
It enables us to:
- Manage and monitor our performance.
- Focus our efforts on the things that most need improving.
- Help us match our resources to our priorities.
- Assess whether we are succeeding in achieving our aim of
securing the highest quality of life for our
community.
