The Suffolk Coastal Sustainable Community Strategy sets out the
overall strategic direction and long-term vision for the economic,
social and environmental well-being of the district and its
communities, in a way that is both achievable and sustainable.
The Suffolk Coastal Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), which is
made up of representatives from the public, private, voluntary and
community sectors, drew up the strategy, which includes a long-term
vision for the district up to 2021 and a series of key priorities
that can be achieved over the next few years.
Various organisations across the district with a key role to
play in the future of the district were asked for their views on
the draft version of the strategy, including town and parish
councils, local businesses, community and voluntary organisations.
The strategy was officially adopted by the Council on 18 December
2008.
Suffolk Coastal has one of highest quality of life ratings
among its residents of anywhere in the country, and the goal of
this strategy is to do everything possible to maintain that status,
while meeting the needs and challenges facing our communities.
The vision of the district in 2021 that underpins the strategy
is that of it being a place "where people want to live and to
invest, to care for others and the environment".
The strategy identifies ten key issues that face the district,
six of which are a priority for the LSP, and four that are already
being tackled by the LSP and its partners, which are:
- Community safety.
- Coastal and estuary management.
- Housing.
- Support for vulnerable people to live independently in their
community.
The six key issues that are a priority for implementation by the
LSP are:
- Access to services.
- Strong, supportive communities.
- Climate change and the environment.
- Economy and skills.
- Healthier lives for all.
- Young people.
