In order to ensure that there was an opportunity for
representatives of interested parties to be involved in the project
a community conference was held on 4 September 2009 at Snape
Maltings. The conference was attended by over 100 representatives
of local organisations including community groups, businesses,
government agencies and councils.
The event was held to raise the profile of the project, to help
identify why local people value the area, collate the issues and
concerns so new ways can be developed to manage the area in the
future.

Five ‘task and finish’
working groups, chaired by members of the local
community and involving both volunteers from the community and
officers from the ICZMI partner organisations, were set up at the
conference to

what matters most to people living and working in and around the
estuary.
The workshops at the community conference addressed two
questions:
There was an excellent response at the conference and to an
online survey that closed in mid December 2009.
The conclusions of the first community conference, topic
area work and other inputs were drawn together
at a second community conference held on 26 March
2010.
