Listed below are the areas in
Leiston which have been designated for the purposes of
Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001.
In the designated areas the police have the power to require
someone whose behaviour is deemed to be anti-social to stop
drinking the alcohol, and if requested, hand over the drink.
Failure to do so is an arrestable offence, with a potential fine of
up to £500.
The designation order that applies is officially called the
Alcohol Consumption in Designated Public Places (Leiston) Order
(No1) 2007.

The order applies to:
Station Road, Buller Road, Roberts Road, Dinsdale Road,
Kitchener Road, Crown Street, Prospect Place, Mafeking Place, Main
Street, Old School Close, High Green, Old Foundry Place, Platers
Walk, Upton Place, King Edward Road, Victory Road, Waterloo Avenue
up to the junction with King Edward Road, Long Row, Urban Road,
Charles Adam Close, Park Hill, Cross Street, Sizewell Road, King
Georges Avenue as far east as the lane leading to Kiln Bungalow
known locally as Kiln Lane, Paxton Chadwick Close, Sylvester Road,
Grimsey Road, Arnhem Road, Eastward Ho, Haven Road, Seaward Avenue,
High Street, Central Road, Orchard Road, Kings Road, South Close,
Quakers Way, Andrew Close, Garrett Crescent, Red House Lane,
Hancocks Close, Grimseys Lane, Valley Road, Haylings Road, Paradise
Place, Southfield Drive, Haylings Grove, John Street, Minden Drive,
Goldings Lane, Aldeburgh Road as far down as the junction with
Goldings Lane, Fridays Orchard, the area of open space known as
Haylings Pond. The Recreation Ground adjacent to Leiston County
Primary School, The Recreation Ground adjacent to Park Hill and
Victory Road. All public car parks with access or egress from or
onto any of the streets listed here.
It should be noted that the order only relates to public places
but not to:
- Any premises to which a premises licence or a club premises
certificate under the Licensing Act 2003 applies or the curtilage
thereof;
- Any premises which by virtue of Part 5 of the Licensing Act
2003 may for the time being be used for the supply of alcohol or
could have been so used within the last twenty minutes;
- Any place where facilities relating to the sale or consumption
of alcohol are permitted under Section 115 E Highways Act
1980.
