Background

The Council's South Area Development Control Sub-Committee deferred a decision on the redevelopment of former the Girdlestones factory site, Station Road, Melton (planning application C/09/0584) at its meeting on 12 November 2009.

The Sub-Committee expressed concerns about the overall scale of the proposed buildings and in particular those proposed to be three storeys high. There were also a number of technical matters that needed to be resolved such as surface water drainage, terms of a possible legal agreement and the content of potential controlling conditions.

Revised proposal submitted

In February 2010 the applicants submitted a revised proposal of all two storey development having a floor space of 8,626 square metres (originally 10,456 square metres) with 275 car parking spaces (originally 303 spaces). Links to the revised plans are set out below along with the updated Design and Access Statement, Traffic Impact Assessment and photo montages. The previous Flood Risk Assessment has not changed.

Conditional approval given

Conditional approval was given by the South Area Development Control Sub-Committee at its meeting on Thursday 4 March, with over 20 conditions intended to control and mitigate the impact of the development on the neighbouring area. For more details read the Council's press release 'Girdlestones site given conditional approval'.
