New public toilets - Crescent Road, Felixstowe

New-look town centre taking shape - Felixstowe town centre is now even more visitor friendly thanks to the completion of the new public toilet facilities in Crescent Road car park.

The new toilets in Crescent Road car park

Work to provide new public toilet facilities on the Crescent Road car park site was completed in January 2011.

The new toilets were funded by Suffolk Coastal District Council, using money from the Local Authority Business Grant Initiative (LABGI) fund, an additional grant from Government for councils who have successfully attracted new businesses and so increased income from business rates.

Since the new toilets have been operational, the existing toilet block on the Triangle has been demolished and the area reinstated to provide a low maintenance flexible space with enhanced landscaping and a canopy to provide shelter for seating, public displays and performances.

The new toilets have seven cubicles plus a larger parent and toddler cubicle as well as a 'Changing Places' facility. They have been designed to be more environmentally friendly using waterless urinals to reduce water consumption and sun tubes to reduce electricity costs for lighting.

The Changing Places facility is available to be used by people with disabilities who require assistance of a carer to use the toilet. It has an adult-sized changing bench and a hoist. The facility is not for independent use and the user must be accompanied by a carer.

The adjacent pedestrian link out of the car park to the town has also been improved to link visually to the town centre, particularly the Triangle, and make access to and from the town centre more inviting and convenient.
