All of Suffolk Coastal
District Council's public buildings that are over 1,000m²
in floor area have been issued with Display Energy
Certificates and advisory reports in compliance with the
Government's Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and
Inspections) Regulations 2007.
The regulations are part of the Government's implementation of
the European Directive 2002/91/EC on the Energy Performance of
Buildings which all member states must adopt.
The Display Energy Certificate gives a building an energy rating
similar to those for fridges, heating boilers, etc, where a rating
of A is very efficient and G is least efficient. The ratings are
based on the actual amount of metered energy used by the building
over a period of twelve months.
The purpose of introducing Display Energy Certificates is to
raise awareness of energy use and to provide a visual encouragement
for the reduction of energy use.
