Ros Lavington and Guy Ackers accepting their Green Community Hero awards from David Walton, Suffolk Climate Change Partnership Manager. The Suffolk Hedgerow Survey gained additional recognition on 18 March 2010 at the 'Suffolk - Creating the Greenest County Awards'.

At the awards Guy Ackers was named Green Community Hero for the work he has undertaken (and continues to undertake) over the last ten years leading the Suffolk Hedgerow Survey.

Guy is pictured with Ros Lavington (Sproughton's Green Community Hero) accepting his award from David Walton, Suffolk Climate Change Partnership Manager.

Guy has been able to convince, through numerous presentations and meetings with interest groups, over 300 parishes and thousands of individuals to take part in the survey. He has provided the inspiration and training to give those volunteers the expertise and confidence to undertake the survey and he has also audited every completed survey, correlated it to the Suffolk Landscape Character Assessment, and reported back to each survey team.

Guy said it was only made possible by the tremendous effort put in by the working group and over 2,000 volunteers in the parishes in supporting the project so well. Sharing the award was in itself recognition of everyone who has participated in producing the huge success of the survey.

Now in their third year, the Creating the Greenest County awards celebrate environmental excellence in schools, businesses and communities. Follow this link for more about the awards (new window).
