What is an application to vary?
If you already hold a premises licence you will have some form
of authorisation to carry out one or more licensable activities.
You can also make an application at any time to ‘vary’ your
premises licence to alter the terms of your licence. For example,
you can apply to extend the hours you are open to the public or to
have conditions removed from your existing licence. You can also
apply to add a licensable activity that your current licence does
not allow you to carry out.
If you wish to add the supply of alcohol as a new licensable
activity you must nominate a designated premises supervisor (DPS).
This individual will be responsible for authorising the sale or
supply of alcohol in line with your premises licence. The DPS must
be a personal licence holder.
How to apply to vary a premises licence.
The Council’s Licensing Team has produced an information pack
for applicants which you can view or download by following the link
below:
Please contact the Licensing Team if you have any questions
about making an application or are finding the process difficult to
understand. You can also make an appointment to visit the Council
Offices if you would like us to go through your application before
you submit it.
If you wish to discuss your application with any of the
responsible authorities you should contact them direct. Their
contact details can be found in the licence variation information
pack.
Application forms
Application forms in PDF and Word formats (new
window) are available from the Department for Culture,
Media and Sport website.
Please note that application forms in Word format can be
filled in on your computer and printed off for submission but
completed forms must be signed and submitted to us as hard
copy.
If you want to fill in your application by hand, print out
either a PDF or Word version and complete it using
black ink and block capitals. This is important because
the form will be scanned.
You can also download Word templates for the production of
press and public notices by following the links below:
