Suffolk Coastal provides a building control service to assist
architects, designers, agents, builders, home-owners, and
businesses, to comply with the statutory Building Regulations.
The main objective of the building control section is to make
the process of complying with Building Regulations as easy and
straightforward as possible.
We have a team of professionally qualified surveyors with
administration support who can provide information and advice on
Building Regulations and our aim is to provide a friendly,
efficient and effective service to meet the needs of both our
customers and the community we serve.
Suffolk Coastal is signed up to the national building control
performance standard for all building control service providers. A
building control officer is available during normal office hours to
provide advice and information on building control matters, but it
is advisable to make an appointment if you wish to speak to a
particular building control officer about your project.
We work closely together with our
development control service to provide
applicants with an integrated service with the aim of ensuring that
your development is carried out in accordance with the regulatory
requirements of both functions.
We also encourage the ‘development team approach’ for larger
more complex projects which enables prospective developers to
discuss their draft proposals jointly with all relevant local
authority functions including environmental services, the highway
authority, and fire service in addition to both building and
development control.
Guide to extending your home
This publication has been produced to guide you through the
building control process. It is not a substitute for professional
advice but it aims to show how your project will be affected by
Building Regulations.
