Report shows how and why Felixstowe needs improving

Felixstowe Local Strategy logoThe report 'A Local Strategy for Felixstowe Peninsula' was published in April 2006 and sets out a vision to guide regeneration and future development in the Felixstowe area. The project was funded by the East of England Development Agency, English Partnerships, Felixstowe Town Council, the Haven Gateway Partnership and Suffolk Coastal District Council. The report was produced by David Lock Associates.

Throughout the production process, the consultants maintained a dialogue of community involvement through exhibitions, questionnaires, meetings, and other focus groups.

The report is an independent set of recommendations and is not itself a finalised development plan for the Felixstowe area. It was intended to stimulate investment and linked policies in a variety of spheres, in both the public and private sectors. It has also informed, and been a significant input to, the Suffolk Coastal Local Development Framework.

The report addresses a number of the key issues facing the Felixstowe area, including housing, employment, leisure, the town centre, and community development. It states that action must be taken to ‘prevent some worrying trends without intervention threaten many simple aspects of life that the existing population currently take for granted.’

The consultants, David Lock Associates, gave a special preview presentation to many of the local organisations who had been consulted during the production of their report. A copy of the presentation, which is a helpful introduction to the full report, can be viewed by following the link below:
