Supplementary Planning Guidance

SpeakerListen to the text on this page

Supplementary Planning Guidance documents (SPGs) contain additional advice issued by the local planning authority that expands its statutory policies.

While not carrying as much legal weight as the Local Plan, SPGs represent the Council's thinking, or planning policy, on specific areas of the district or particular development issues.

SPGs will be replaced by Supplementary Planning Documents under the Suffolk Coastal Local Development Framework. Until their replacement, SPGs adopted by the Council and currently in operation, will continue to be used as material considerations in the determination of planning applications.

The full list of SPGs is given below with links to downloadable versions. Copies of SPGs can be purchased from the Planning Helpdesk.

Please note that some of these documents are very large files. We recommend that you download the larger files to your computer rather than try to view them in your web browser. Follow this link for help with downloading and opening PDF files.

SPG 10 - Conservation area appraisals:

Please note: In June 2010 conservation area appraisals for Earl Soham, Grundisburgh, Melton, Orford, Peasenhall, Thorpeness, Westleton and Yoxford were adopted as Supplementary Planning Documents.
