In December 2008 we published the Core Strategy Preferred
Options document setting out our vision for the district and a
series of objectives and policies to show how this vision will be
achieved.
We consulted on the Preferred Options document from
8 December 2008 to 20 February 2009.

Local Development Framework Task Group meetings - June
2009
Two Local Development Framework Task Group meetings took place
in June 2009 to consider issues arising from the consultation.
The reports prepared for each meeting contain summaries of the
comments made during the consultation and the Council's response to
those comments. Follow the links below to view the reports for
those meetings:
Further consultation on housing distribution
Following the public consultation on the Preferred Options
document some parts of the Core Strategy were updated. The
number of new homes required in the district by 2025 remained at
7,710, but changes were made to where these are expected
to be built.
In July 2009 Suffolk Coastal’s Cabinet agreed that the updated
housing distribution should be the subject of further public
consultation. The consultation period ran from 23 September
2009 until 18 November 2009.
What's in the Preferred Options document?
The Preferred Options document sets out how and where new homes
will be distributed across the district, with a strategy for each
town to govern its future growth. It also sets out the anticipated
social, economic and environmental impacts of pursuing the
preferred options as well as the predicted impacts of alternative
options.
It also sets out a 'settlement hierarchy' of all the district’s
towns and villages which takes account of their existing facilities
and then puts then into a number of groups according to their
suitability to accommodate future development. It also examines
such subjects as employment, transport, shopping and climate
change.
Together with the Core Strategy are the Development Control
Policies which interpret the principles of the Core Strategy into
specific more detailed policies against which applications for
planning permissions would be considered. These are another
important area where we want to hear the views of everyone
concerned.
The document is also accompanied by a
Sustainability Appraisal report, which sets
out how well the objectives and policies contribute towards the
national policy of sustainable development.
In drawing up the Core Strategy, various studies on housing,
employment and other issues have been carried out to form the
evidence base and justification for much of its
content.
Please note - immediately following publication
of the Core Strategy Preferred Options document it was discovered
that a typesetting error had occurred at paragraph 3.46. The bullet
points listed should have read as disadvantages associated with the
Preferred Option and the explanatory text for the option was
missing. The wording and layout were corrected and the
document updated on the website. Anyone known to have been sent a
document during the consultation period prior to the update
was notified of the change. The consultation deadline was also
extended to 20 February 2009 to allow for any inconvenience this
may have caused.
