Pre-Submission Core Strategy & Development Management Policies

Pre-Submission publication for comments on 'soundness'

The Pre-Submission Core Strategy document has been published for a six week publication period from Wednesday 25 January to 5.15pm on 7 March 2012, when representations relating to the document's 'soundness' and legal compliance are invited.

This is the opportunity for anyone who is satisfied or dissatisfied with the Core Strategy to make formal representations to the Planning Inspector about the soundness of the document, which you can view by following the link below:

The publication period is being undertaken in accordance with Regulation 27 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004 as amended in 2008 and 2009.

The Pre-Submission Core Strategy document can be also be viewed at the Planning Helpdesk, Council Offices, Melton Hill, Woodbridge, IP12 1AU during normal office hours - Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8.45am to 5.15pm, Wednesday 9.30am to 5.15pm and Friday 8.45am to 4.45pm.

The document will also be made available to view at local libraries in the district. Please note, these are not formal deposit points, but the document will be left in these locations for the convenience of local residents.

Making representations

Those making representations should explain whether they consider the document to be legally compliant and/or ‘sound’, or otherwise, and the reasons for that view. The guidance notes below provide information about legal compliance, the definition of 'soundness' and general advice about making representations. Anyone wishing to make representations is recommended to read the guidance notes before doing so:

It is also recommended that those wishing to make representations use the online consultation system:

Alternatively comments can be submitted on a representation form:

Completed forms can be emailed to development.policy@suffolkcoastal.gov.uk or posted to:

Representations may be accompanied by a request to be notified when the document has been submitted for Examination in Public, notified of the publication of the recommendations of the Planning Inspector appointed to undertake the Examination, and/or when the document is adopted.

Please note all representations submitted whether electronically or in paper form, will be made public through the online consultation system.

Any queries, please contact the Planning Policy team on 01394 444761 or email development.policy@suffolkcoastal.gov.uk

What happens next?

After the six week publication period, the Core Strategy document and the representations received will be submitted for Examination in Public by an independent Planning Inspector appointed by the Government who will identify issues from those suggested for debate during sessions open to the public.

On completion of the Examination in Public, the Planning Inspector will consider all of the written representations and evidence put forward as part of the Examination and will write a formal report, which will determine whether the document has been found ‘sound’ and legally compliant and will include recommendations for possible changes. These are binding and the Core Strategy will be amended accordingly before it is formally adopted.

Supporting documents

The Council is also required to submit the following documents when it submits the Core Strategy for Examination:

Copies of the documents can be also be purchased by calling the Planning Policy Team on 01394 444761 or by emailing development.policy@suffolkcoastal.gov.uk. Costs are £12 + p&p for the Core Strategy and £10 + p&p for both the Sustainability Appraisal and Appropriate Assessment.
