Suffolk Coastal is drawing up a new Local Development
Framework setting out the planning policies, proposals and
actions for the
future development of our district to 2025 and
beyond.
The Local Development Framework (LDF) is a new type
of plan which will replace the
Suffolk Coastal Local Plan. A number of
documents make up the LDF, each of which must go through
various consultation stages.
One of the most important parts of the LDF is the Core
Strategy and Development Control Policies document which sets the
context for the rest of the LDF, identifies where growth is going
to occur and where protection is essential, and contains the
policies that will be used in determining planning
applications. From December to February we will
be consulting on our preferred options for the Core
Strategy.
Forthcoming consultations
Core Strategy Preferred Options - have your
say on our preferred approach towards the future development
of the district, covering subjects such as housing, settlement
hierarchy, economy, environment and community well-being.
Site Specific Allocations and Policies Issues and
Options - give us your thoughts on the
sites which landowners, developers and others have submitted to the
Council for consideration for allocation for development. Also, we
are inviting comments on what criteria should be used when deciding
where to draw the physical limits boundaries, or ‘envelopes’, of
those settlements where new development will be directed.
Consultation will begin on 8 December 2008
until 16 February 2009.
Find out more at our information roadshows
A series of information roadshows will be held by the Council
across the district in January when you will be able to come along
and find out more about the LDF. Planning officers will be
available to discuss issues and answer your questions. Details will
be published here nearer the time.
Why so many consultations stages?
The Government requires that local authorities undertake a
series of consultations as each LDF document progresses and before
it is formally adopted and becomes council policy. Each document
may be subject to a number stages:
- Issues and Options consultation.
- Preferred Options consultation.
- Formal Submission consultation.
- Examination in Public.
How have we done so far?
This is the first Local Development Framework produced by
Suffolk Coastal and we are following the guidance and regulations
issued by the Government in order to draw it up and consult with
the public. We would like your views about how we have done so far
and any comments or suggestions you have on how we could do it
better. Please email us at
