Site Specific Allocations & Policies

SpeakerListen to the text on this page

Suffolk Coastal Local Development FrameworkThe Site Specific Allocations & Policies document will contain policies that apply to specific sites, locations or areas as opposed to being district wide. It will identify individual sites, land and areas to be allocated for development to meet the development needs set out in the Core Strategy.

The document will allocate land having regard to principles of sustainability as well as providing the policy framework to meet the housing requirements of the district in accordance with the Core Strategy.

As well as seeking to ensure a supply of land for housing development the document will address:

  • Employment and the supply of land.
  • Retailing and land for development or redevelopment.
  • Redefining environmental areas like conservation areas or green spaces.
  • Town centres.
  • Site or area specific issues.

Site Specific Allocations Issues and Options consultation

The Issues and Options document identifies all the sites which landowners, developers and others have submitted to the Council for consideration to be allocated for future development. We want you to let us know which of the sites submitted you think would best meet the future long term needs of the district, and those which you think should not be developed - you can make comments online or by post.

We are consulting on the Site Specific Allocations Issues and Options document from 8 December 2008 until 20 February 2009.

Please note that these sites are not ones that the Council is proposing for development - at this stage no work has been done on assessing or prioritising them for their suitability as sites for future development. The Council has neither endorsed or rejected any of these sites as this is just the initial part of the process.

We are also be inviting comments on what criteria should be used when deciding where to draw the physical limits boundaries, or ‘envelopes’, of those settlements where new development will be directed.

What happens next?

The Site Specific Allocations & Policies document will include other site specific information and policies in addition to potential sites for development and physical limits boundaries proposals set out in the Issues and Options document. The further issues would include such things as wildlife protection areas, town centre boundaries, district centres, car parking, areas to be protected from development, sport and leisure provisions, cemetery provisions, and school site allocations.

The further issues and relevant proposals maps will be presented in a Further Issues and Options version of the Site Specific Allocations & Policies in early 2009.
