What is Soundwaves?
Soundwaves is a music project for young people aged 13 to 26 in
the Suffolk Coastal area, aimed at providing musical entertainment
and opportunity.
It offers workshops in pop and rock, music tech and dj-ing, run
by a team of dedicated professional tutors and puts on gigs to
showcase the best local talent.
Soundwaves launched its first Sounds of the East Coast CD,
featuring ten of the district’s most promising young artists, in
December 2007. A battle-of-the-bands style contest was held last
year to find the acts for a new Sounds from the East Coast
CD, which was launched on 4 April 2009.
Sounds of the East Coast 2
Over the course of two heats held in November and December last
year, the Soundwaves Ultimate Bands Contest gave 24 bands and solo
artists in the district the chance to compete for the opportunity
to work with top industry professionals, record demo CDs, and
perform live on stage.
Two acts from each heat were be chosen by the judges,
and the three were selected by audience votes.
The five top acts from each of the heats were recorded at
Leiston's Summerhill Studios, and one track from each has
been showcased on the new Sounds from the East Coast CD.
