Active Communities - making sport accessible

SpeakerListen to the text on this page

Active Communities logoThe Active Communities team develops and co-ordinates activities, in partnership with the education and health services, the police and the voluntary sector, to maximise achievement in sport, encourage personal fitness and healthy lifestyles - particularly in young and older people.

We work closely with schools, clubs, coaches and facilities to improve access to sport and physical activity for all sectors of the community. We also provide support and advice to sport and leisure groups and the voluntary sector.

Summer activitiesThe team runs a variety of outreach programmes. Our aim is to make sport more accessible, especially to people in the more remote villages in our district, by taking activities out into local communities. These activities have included the summer playscheme and mobile skatepark, which proved very popular with children and young people in the villages it visited.

We also have a special website called Coastal Potato (new window) which includes details of all the activities we know that are happening for people aged 0 -18 years old.
