The GreenThumb Suffolk Coastal Sports Awards 2008

GreenThumb logoThe GreenThumb Suffolk Coastal Sports Awards were held at the Seckford Theatre in Woodbridge on 24 February 2008.

Eight awards were presented to local sports people and organisations for their achievements and contribution to sport during 2007 at an evening opened by the Olympian, Professor Bill Tancred MBE.

This was the second year of the annual awards promoted by the Coastal Sports Alliance (new window).

As well as the awards sponsors, the evening was made possible by GreenThumb, Coastal Sports Alliance, Suffolk Sport, Newell Fox, P & R Locksmiths, Suffolk Coastal District Council, Suffolk School Sports Partnership, The Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge School Enterprise and Chris Mapey Photography.

2008 award winners:

The Morson Group Sports Personality of the Year.
Winner: Keith Atkinson (Windsurfing).
Commended: Bradley Ball (Squash), Phil Revett (Sea fishing).

The DC Leisure Young Sports Personality of the Year.
Winner: Mary Edmundson (Eventing).
Commended: Sian Fagg (Discus), Tim Linsell (Sailing).

The Mannings Amusement Park Disabled Sports Personality of the Year.
Winner: Oliver Hedgley (Swimming).
Commended: Grace Hill (Swimming), Elise Martin-de-la-Torre (Swimming).

The King Pin Club of the Year.
Winner: Deben Swimming Club.
Commended: HN Netball Club, Woodbridge Town FC.

The Suffolk Sport Coach of the Year.
Winner: Ian Cotton (Swimming).
Commended: Jerry Bodkin (Rugby), Julie Jolliffe (Judo).

The School Sports Partnership Sport Primary School of the Year.
Winner: Causton Junior School..
Commended: Kingsfleet Primary School, Snape Primary.

The Wolsey Volkswagen Volunteer of the Year.
Winner: Kim Stevens.
Commended: Chris Ehret, Graham Elliot.

The Waverley Hotel Lifetime Achievement Award.
Winner: Keith Dixon.
Commended: Gordon Merfield, Mavis Thompson.
