Young people from across the district put on an impressive
performance at this year’s Suffolk Youth Games competing in sports
ranging from athletics to skatepark skills.
The 2010 Redrow Homes Suffolk Youth Games took place at
Abbeycroft Leisure Centre and King Edward VI School, Bury St
Edmunds on 11 July.
With the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London just around
the corner, the games offered young people in school years 5 to 9 a
small taste of what it is like to take part in a large-scale,
multi-sport event.
The games were once again contested by teams from the seven
local authority areas across the county - Babergh, Forest Heath,
Ipswich, Mid Suffolk, Suffolk Coastal, St Edmundsbury and
Waveney.
This year there were 9 competitive sports - athletics,
badminton, basketball, hockey, skateboarding, squash, table tennis,
tag rugby and tennis, as well as two independent competitions in
judo and boccia.
The Suffolk event, now in its eleventh year, is organised by
Suffolk Sport, in association with local authorities, sports clubs,
schools and other sports partners across Suffolk.
