Suffolk Youth Games logoThe 2009 Redrow Suffolk Youth Games were held on Sunday 12 July at the Abbeycroft Leisure Centre, Bury St. Edmunds.

Young people in school years 5 to 11, who live or go to school in the Suffolk Coastal district were once again given the opportunity to represent their district at this great festival of sport.

The sports at this year's games were:

  • Team Suffolk Coastal 2008Athletics (able-bodied years 5 & 6 and disability years 7 to 11, mixed).
  • Badminton (years 7, 8, 9, mixed).
  • Basketball (years 5 & 6, mixed).
  • Hockey (years 7, 8, 9, boys & girls competitions).
  • Table Tennis (years 5, 6, 7 & 8, mixed).
  • Tag Rugby (years 5 & 6, mixed).
  • Tennis (years 7 & 8, mixed).

Suffolk Coastal achieved fourth places in both able-bodied and disabled athletics and equal third place in the Badminton competition.

The competition in all seven sports was fierce at times, with strong teams from Waveney, St Edmundsbury, Mid Suffolk and Forest Heath in particular ensuring it remained a closely fought title. Waveney carried off the overall title for the fifth year in a row with Babergh taking the Fair Play award.
