Surveys carried out by
the 47 local authorities in the eastern region indicate that
80% of homes in the East of England may not have sufficient
loft insulation to meet the current standard of 270mm (11")
thickness, with over 250,000 homes without any insulation at
all.
Around half the heat loss from a typical home is through the
roof and walls. Heating bills for a typical 3 bedroom semi-detached
house with an uninsulated loft could be reduced by up to £150 a
year by effectively insulating the loft - this could also cut the
household carbon footprint by around half a tonne a year.
The Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative
The Government’s Heating and Energy Saving Strategy, calls for
all lofts and cavities to be insulated by 2015. Local
authorities in the eastern region have come together in a
partnership called the Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative
(EasternCRI) to provide a region-wide single cost insulation
package.
EasternCRI has been developed to
give homeowners and tenants alike affordable loft and cavity
wall insulation installed by approved contractors using
the grant aid available in the energy market place.
Having insulation installed may be free if you
qualify as a priority group customer or cost
as little as £149 otherwise.
