Unable to clear your loft so insulation can be installed?
If you have been offered free insulation but are unable to
proceed because you are not able to clear your loft we may be able
to help. Suffolk Coastal is running a pilot project to help older
or more vunerable residents clear their lofts so that insulation
can be installed. Our budget for this project is limited so we are
considering applications on a first come first served basis.
If you are interested in taking up this free
service, please contact the project co-ordinator Jayne Howlett on
01394 444506. Please remember that to qualify you
must also qualify for free insulation - advice about insulation
schemes can be obtained from the project co-ordinator.
How does it work?
First of all one of our Environmental Health Officers will visit
you to carry out a survey of your loft to get the information
required to proceed with the clearance. We would like you to think
about whether there is a suitable place within your home or garage
where you could temporarily store your possessions while the
insulation work takes place, our Environmental Health Officer will
discuss this with you when they visit.
You will then be visited by a representative of Suffolk Coastal
Services who will give us a quote for the clearance work. Once we
have received their quote we will contact you to arrange a
convenient time for the clearance to begin. We will then talk to
the insulation company to arrange for them to visit and insulate
your loft.
Sorting out your possessions
We would encourage you to have a look through your possessions
before putting them back in the loft. You may wish to take this
opportunity to dispose of anything you really don’t need or wish to
keep any more. Suffolk Coastal Services will be employed to put any
items back in your loft, they will also dispose of any items you
really don’t wish to keep any more - we will make a list of these
items and will need your consent to dispose of them.
If you need help sorting through your possessions we can ask Age
Concern to arrange a trusted contractor to meet with you to discuss
helping you with the sorting process. Obviously we would prefer if
you have a trusted member of the family or friend that could help
with this delicate process.
Please bear in mind that this is a pilot project and although
much care has gone into the planning we will be learning lessons as
each case unfolds. We will ensure that all contractors used by the
project are fully insured for accidental damage.
