Suffolk Coastal's 'Warmer homes - better health' scheme has been
developed to reach rural communities and aims to combat fuel
poverty by improving the quality of housing for those affected and
help prevent the diseases which are linked to cold, damp homes.
Fuel poverty is the term often used to describe households who
cannot afford to pay for adequate warmth in their homes. This
situation arises out of a combination of low incomes, high fuel
bills and poor insulation.
The Private Sector Housing Team works in partnership with
organisations who visit people in their homes. These include
voluntary agencies, health and social services, whose staff carry
referral cards with them to ensure that anyone they feel is in need
of insulation or heating improvements is referred to our team.
Once individual circumstances are determined assistance is given
through
Warm Front (new window), the Council's own
renovation grant scheme or
enforcement powers.
