Small repair serviceIf you are an elderly or disabled home owner or private tenant, and are finding it increasingly difficult to do those little maintenance jobs around the house, then why not call on the Suffolk Coastal Small Repair Service on 01394 444644.

The Small Repair Service will carry out those little jobs for you free of labour charges – all you pay for are the materials and the hire of any special equipment at cost price.

The service is run by Suffolk Coastal’s Helping Hand home improvement agency in conjunction with Suffolk Heritage Housing Association’s maintenance ranger service so you can be assured of a trustworthy contractor and that the works will be carried out to a good standard. It is one of our ways to try and protect vulnerable people from ‘cowboy’ builders.

The types of work covered are those that can generally be carried out in 2-3 hours, for example:

  • Repairs and adjustments to doors and windows.
  • Guttering repairs (bungalows only).
  • Roofing repairs.
  • Gate and path repairs.
  • Minor plumbing repairs.
  • Minor electrical work.
  • Fitting smoke alarms.
  • Fixing dripping taps.
  • Putting up shelves.
  • Putting up curtain rails.
  • Fitting locks and security chains.

At times of peak demand we will give priority to those elderly or disabled people living alone who are in receipt of a means-tested benefit. It may also be necessary to limit the number of jobs that we can do at one property.

Where more extensive work is needed you may be eligible for grant aid. We will be able to advise you of this. We can help you with all the paperwork and organise reputable contractors. So if you have concerns about repairing your home give us a ring on 01394 444644 or email ps.housing@suffolkcoastal.gov.uk.
