Street naming and numbering

We have introduced charges for some of the non-statutory services we provide - follow this link for details.

New housing development Street naming and numbering is a statutory function carried out by Suffolk Coastal, under the provisions of Sections 17-19 of the Public Health Act 1925.

The Council is responsible for the definitive addresses of all properties within the district. These addresses are held in our Local Land and Property Gazetteer and are managed by the Property Information team. The gazetteers of all local authorities are linked up to form a definitive index of land and properties in England and Wales known as the National Land and Property Gazetteer (new window).

The Property Information team deals with all requests for the naming and numbering of new streets and properties and the renaming of existing properties and any related enquiries. To find out more follow the links below.

Postcodes

The Council is not responsible for the allocation of postcodes, this is the responsibility of Royal Mail. However, Royal Mail will not issue a postcode for a new street or property until we advise it that the street or property address has been agreed.
