Your waste and recycling services
In 2006 we launched a new
wheeled bin recycling and refuse collection
service, giving people alternate fortnightly collections of
recyclable materials and household refuse that cannot be
recycled.

Around 42,000 homes, or nearly three-quarters of the district,
now have the new service. We plan to roll out the service to every
home in the district by March 2010.
For homes that do not yet have the new wheeled bin collection
service, we operate
a weekly black sack collection service for
household refuse and a fortnightly collection of waste paper from
green crates.
Every home in the district has a
fortnightly brown bin collection service for
their garden and food waste.
Thanks to the willingness of residents to make use of their
recycling services, the current amount of household waste that is
being recycled rather than going into landfill is over 48%,
which is well above the national average of 34.5%.
However, while we are working hard to reduce the amount of waste
that is thrown away, we also offer a wide range of services to
dispose of waste. Follow the links below or use the left hand menu
to find out more about our services and tips on recycling and how
to minimise the waste you produce.
