Wheeled bin recycling service - which materials go in which
bin? |
The blue lidded bin is
for:
- Plastics - such as milk containers, shampoo
bottles, fizzy drink bottles, fabric conditioner bottles, margarine
tubs, yoghurt pots but no bags or film.
- Steel & aluminium cans and tins - food and
drinks cans such as baked bean tins, pet food tins but no
aerosols.
- Paper - such as newspaper, magazines,
catalogues, brochures, junk mail, telephone directories including
Yellow Pages, greetings cards, wrapping paper, office-type paper
and envelopes.
- Cardboard - corrugated cardboard boxes and
food packaging such as cereal boxes.
- Foil - such as clean food trays and milk
bottle tops and yoghurt pot tops.
- Metal jar lids and bottle tops.
All the material for recycling should be clean and dry and
placed loose in the blue lidded bin.
Do not put any of the following in
your blue lidded bin:
- Plastic bags and film, wrappers, expanded polystyrene
food trays and packaging.
- Any mixed materials - for example
waxed cartons such as Tetrapaks,
crisp packets and cat food pouches.
- Shredded paper, cardboard-based egg boxes and garden
waste - please
put these in the brown bin for composting.
- Food waste - this can be placed in the brown
bin for composting.
- Glass - please place glass bottles and jars in
your local glass banks.
- Aerosol cans - these can be taken to the
household waste recycling centres (new
window) at Foxhall, Felixstowe and Leiston.
- Clothing or textiles - these can be placed in
your local textile banks or taken to a charity shop if in reusable
condition.
- String, wire, video tapes, audio tapes - these
all cause breakdowns at the sorting facility.
- Disposable nappies, batteries, or hazardous
waste.

The brown bin is for:
- Garden waste - such as grass cuttings, hedge
trimmings, weeds, leaves and flowers.
- Kitchen food waste - all food scraps including
raw and cooked, fish and meat, vegetables and fruit, bread, pasta
and rice.
- Shredded paper and cardboard-based egg
boxes.
- Cardboard and paper - if there is insufficient
room in your blue-lidded bin.
The grey bin is for:
- Household waste which is not
recyclable.
