TickYour blue lidded bin is for:

  • Plastics - such as milk containers, shampoo and drinks bottles, margarine and ice cream tubs, yoghurt pots but no bags, film, wrapping or expanded polystyrene packaging. Please remove any lids and put them in your bin.

  • Steel & aluminium cans and tins - such as food and drinks cans, pet food tins but no aerosols.

  • Paper - such as newspaper, magazines, catalogues, brochures, junk mail (please remove any plastic covers), telephone directories including Yellow Pages, greetings cards, wrapping paper, office-type paper and envelopes.

  • Cardboard - cardboard boxes and food packaging such as cereal boxes, greetings cards.

  • Foil - such as clean food trays and milk bottle tops and yoghurt pot tops.

  • Metal jar lids and bottle tops.

All the material for recycling should be clean and dry and placed loose in the blue lidded bin.

You can reduce the amount of junk mail you receive by registering with the Mail Preference Service or Royal Mail's Door-to-Door Opt-Out service. Follow this link to find out more about reducing the amount of junk mail you receive.

CrossDo not put any of the following in your blue lidded bin:

  • Plastic bags and film, wrappers, expanded polystyrene food trays and packaging.

  • Any mixed materials - for example paper-based cartons such as Tetra Paks, crisp packets and cat food pouches.

  • Shredded paper, cardboard-based egg boxes and garden waste - please put these in the brown bin for composting.

  • Food waste - this can be put in the brown bin for composting.

  • Glass - please place glass bottles and jars in your local glass banks.

  • Aerosol cans and batteries - these can be taken to the household waste recycling centres (new window) at Foxhall, Felixstowe and Leiston.

  • Clothing or textiles - these can be taken to your local textile bank or charity shop if in reusable condition.

  • String, wire, video tapes, audio tapes - these all cause breakdowns at the sorting facility.

  • Disposable nappies - put them in the grey lidded bin.

  • Hazardous waste - contact 01394 444000 for advice.

Follow this link to find your local recycling centre for glass, textiles and cans.

TickYour brown bin is for:

  • Garden waste - such as grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, weeds, dead flowers, light shrub cuttings and leaves.

  • Kitchen food waste - raw or cooked fish and meat, vegetables and fruit, eggs and dairy, bread, pasta and rice, tea bags and coffee grounds.

  • Shredded paper and cardboard egg boxes.

  • Paper and card - if there is insufficient room in your blue lidded bin.

Double wrapping the food waste in newspaper will help stop smells and flies. If you do not want food waste in your brown bin for up to a fortnight, it can also be placed in the grey lidded bin for collection during the other week.

CrossDo not put any of the following in your brown bin:

  • Bagged waste.

  • Soil and stones.

  • Disposable nappies - put them in the grey lidded bin.

  • Cat or dog waste - see the grey lidded bin section below.

  • Branches thicker than 1.5 inches.

  • Cigarette butts or chewing gum - put them in the grey lidded bin.

  • Japanese Knotweed.

Follow this link for more about the brown bin collection service and to find out what happens to the waste collected in the brown bin.

TickYour grey lidded bin is for:

  • Household waste which cannot be recycled as part of our scheme.

  • Disposable nappies.

  • Cat or dog waste - provided it is from your own household pet and only forms a small element of your household waste. It should be double-wrapped (placed inside a plastic bag which is tied and then placed inside another plastic bag - for example, a poop-scoop bag then placed inside a bin liner) before being placed in the grey lidded bin.

If you have excessive amounts of such waste (for instance if you have several large dogs) then the household waste collection service is not an appropriate method of disposal and you should contact 01394 444000 to make alternative arrangements.

CrossDo not put any of the following in your grey bin:

  • Hazardous waste or liquids - contact 01394 444000 for advice.

  • Garden waste.
