Waste paper collection

SpeakerListen to the text on this page

All accessible properties in Suffolk Coastal currently receive a fortnightly collection of waste paper using the green crates. Information about how to use your green crate and how to find your local paper recycling facilities is given below and in our frequently asked questions section

In 2006 a wheeled bin recycling service was launched for over 9,000 homes in the district, giving people the chance to have their cardboard, plastics, foil, cans and paper collected every fortnight. 9,500 homes received the new service in 2007 and another 6,000 will get it in April 2008. The Council plans to roll out this new service to every home in the district by the end of 2010. Information will be sent to each household shortly before the service starts in that area.

Homes receiving this new service will no longer have their green crate collected but you may find it useful for storing glass bottles and jars before taking them to a local recycling site.

How to use your green crate

Please use your green crate for all of the following:

  • NewspapersRecycle for Suffolk Coastal logo
  • Shopping catalogues
  • Magazines
  • Holiday brochures
  • Envelopes
  • Writing paper
  • Brochures
  • Office-type paper
  • Pamphlets
  • White telephone directories
  • Junk mail
  • Greetings cards

Please do not put any of the following items in your green crate as they will not be collected:

  • Cardboard
  • Glass
  • Cans, tins or foil
  • Plastic
  • Yellow Pages
  • Any other waste

Please help us to provide the best service possible by following these guidelines:

  • Put the green crate where you normally leave your black refuse sacks.
  • Please remember that collections start at 7:30am.
  • Help reduce theft or loss by taking your green crate in as soon as possible after collection.
  • Please do not put paper into black sacks or with your general rubbish.
  • To prevent windblown paper, place your black sack on top of the green crate.
  • Placing the paper in edgeways, rather than laying it flat, can also help prevent windblown paper.

Use your local recycling facilities

You can take your paper, glass, cans, plastics, textiles, books and other recyclable materials to one of the many recycling sites across the district.

Using your local recycling facilities helps those local community groups that receive community recycling grants.
