Every baby using disposable nappies can produce up to half a tonne
of nappy waste a year. By switching to re-usable cloth nappies
('real nappies'), you could halve the amount of waste you
produce.
Most nappy waste is disposed of by burying in landfill, and
disposable nappies can take 100 years to decompose. Soiled nappies
in landfill also give off methane, a harmful greenhouse gas.
Save money with real nappies
Using real nappies will also save money compared with using
disposables. The average baby gets through 5,000 disposable
nappies from birth to being potty trained. By using Real Nappies,
only 20-30 nappies will be needed, which will save up to £500, and
more if the nappies are used on more than one child.
